Run 5.30 lands in Leicester

After making an international debut in the UK last year, the unique Italian phenomenon Run 5.30 is quickly growing as it finds its second English destination in Leicester.

At 5.30am on Friday 8th July, whilst most of the city is sleeping, early birds from across Leicestershire will be making the most of the morning; donning brightly coloured t-shirts and lacing up their trainers ready for a 5.3k run.

The alternative concept which first landed in the UK last year with a Nottingham event comes from Italy where Run 5.30 has become a regular occurrence in cities from Milan to Venice. Devised by Dr Sabrina Severi, a nutritional biologist and keen runner, the aim was to promote healthy habits in people’s lifestyle and encourage them to enjoy some exercise and a healthy breakfast before going to work.

Last year’s event was a chance to see how the British would take to this continental craze and with over 500 people taking part in the inaugural event it was clear that there was an appetite for Run 5.30 here. After such great success, event organisers have chosen Leicester as the second destination for the UK series.

Engaged to deliver the event in Leicester and Nottingham, Beeston based company Perfect Motion are thrilled to see Run 5.30 making its mark across the East Midlands. Nik Emmonds, Account Director for Events at Perfect Motion, said:

“Run 5.30 is such a different concept and it was so well received by Nottingham in 2015. Since then there has been an amazing amount of interest from other cities so we’re really happy to be bringing it to Leicester this year.

“Whether people choose to run or walk the route, it doesn’t matter. It’s a social event and we found the camaraderie last year was great with everyone cheering people across the finish line and chatting over their breakfast before heading to work.”

The Leicester route will take runners from Victoria Park into the city passing some best known and loved landmarks such as New Walk and the Cathedral before ending back in the park. At the end of the 5.3k, participants will be greeted across the finish line with a healthy fruit filled breakfast; the perfect way to start a Friday.

Early bird is now available and all entrants will receive a complimentary Run 5.30 t-shirt:
